Appendix IX - SETTING UP THE BORLAND DATABASE ENGINE
The BDE (Borland Database Engine) is what allows the BCFPI software to access it data. There is a particular setting ("LOCAL SHARE") that needs to be manually set to avoid corruption of the data. This section outlines how to verify and change (if necessary) the "LOCAL SHARE" setting. THIS MUST BE DONE ON EVERY COMPUTER THAT USES THE BCFPI.
Open the Control Panel
Use your Windows Start Menu to open your Control Panel.
Start the BDE Administrator
On the Control Panel dialog, find the icon for the "BDE Administrator". Double click on this icon to open the BDE Administrator.
Navigate to the BDE settings
Select the 'Configuration' tab in the BDE Administrator.
In the left-hand panel, navigate to 'Init'.
Change LOCAL SHARE
On the right-hand panel, you will see the setting for LOCAL SHARE. If this is not set to TRUE, you need to change it so that it is set to TRUE.
Once you have confirmed that "LOCAL SHARE" has been set to TRUE, you can exit the BDE Administrator by clicking on the [X] in the upper right corner of the BDE Administrator dialog.
Save your changes and Exit the BDE Administrator
If you had to change the value for "LOCAL SHARE" you will be prompted whether or not you want to save your edits. Click [Yes] to save your edits. (You may also be warned that you need to restart all applications that use the BDE for your changes to take effect. If you have the BCFPI software running, shut it down, then restart it).
