Appendix II - PREPARING THE BCFPI DATABASE
After you install/update the BCFPI Server, you will need to rebuild the database to deal with any "Index out of date" error messages. You may also need to apply a fix to your database. To make things easier, it's best to rebuild the BCFPI database on the server before you install the workstations.
Start the BCFPI server
You can use the new BCFPI Icon to start the BCFPI software.
Start the Rebuild
Once the BCFPI software is running, you can start the rebuild. Click on 'Tools | Rebuild Database' in the BCFPI software.
Note: if you are trying to rebuild the database on a computer other than the actual BCFPI server, you may get an error like the one described in the mapping drives appendix. Please refer to the mapping drives appendix to fix the problem. You will see the following screen warning that the database rebuild cannot be run while anyone else is running the software. If no one else is running the software, click on [No].
You will be given one more chance to cancel. Choose [No] again if no one is using the software.
A progress bar will inform you of the progress of the rebuild.
After the rebuild has completed, click on [OK] to continue.
Check the Rebuild/Apply Database Fix
Once you have completed the rebuild, click on 'View | Forms' to open the form view.
If your database needs a fix applied, a message similar to the following will appear. Click [Yes] for the fix to be applied. (You will not be able to use the database until you apply the fix).
Once the fix has been applied, click on [OK]. You are now ready to use the database.
Repeat for the Live and Demo databases
The process of rebuilding and applying a fix to your database only applies to the currently active database (in our example this was the demo database). You should repeat this process for your live database as well. See the section on choosing a Live/Demo database for information on changing the active database, and make sure you have prepared both your Demo and Live databases.
